Hyderabad: Recently reintegrated former CPI (Maoist) cadres on Friday met Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at their request in Hyderabad, in the presence of senior government and police officials.

The meeting was attended by Vem Narender Reddy, advisor to the chief minister; K. Keshava Rao, advisor to the government; K. Ramakrishna Rao, Chief Secretary of Telangana; B. Shivadhar Reddy, Director General of Police; Vijay Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, Intelligence; and B. Sumathi, Inspector General of Police, SIB (Int).

Among the former CPI (Maoist) leaders present were Tipiri Thirupathi alias Devuji alias Ramesh alias Sanjeev alias Chethan alias Kumma Dada, former central committee member and polit bureau member; Malla Raji Reddy alias Sangram, former central committee member; Pulluri Prasad Rao alias Shankaranna alias Chandranna alias Somanna, former central committee member; Pothula Padmavathi alias Kalpana alias Mainabai alias Mynakka alias Sujatha, former central committee member; Bade Chokka Rao alias Damodar, former state committee member and secretary of the Telangana state committee; and Nune Narsimha Reddy alias Ganganna alias Rahul alias Sannu, former state committee member.

Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy briefed the chief minister on developments over the past two years regarding reintegration efforts. He said that responding to the chief minister’s call, 591 Maoists across the state had rejoined the mainstream during this period and are now leading normal lives. He attributed the development to coordinated efforts by the police department and improved rehabilitation policies implemented by the state government, which, he said, influenced even top leaders to repose faith in the democratic system.

Revanth Reddy held a face-to-face interaction with the former leaders and congratulated them for choosing the democratic path after years in the forests. He stated that violence cannot offer a permanent solution to problems and that people’s aspirations can be fulfilled only through democratic means.

The reintegrated cadres thanked the chief minister and the state government for facilitating their return to the mainstream and expressed their willingness to contribute constructively to society. They also requested enhancement of relief and rehabilitation packages on par with policies in neighbouring states.

The chief minister assured that there would be no shortcomings in providing security and rehabilitation benefits to the reintegrated cadres and reiterated that the state government would extend all necessary support to help them live with dignity.

Officials described the meeting as open and cordial, paving the way for further engagement based on the representations made by the former cadres.
