PM-Kisan 20th Installment to be Released on August 2; PM Modi to Lead National Campaign from Varanasi

₹20,500 crore to be transferred to 9.7 crore farmers; Union Minister Shivraj Singh reviews nationwide preparations
New Delhi, July 31 :The 20th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme will be released on August 2 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi, marking a major milestone in the flagship Direct Benefit Transfer initiative aimed at supporting India’s farming community.
In preparation, Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a high-level virtual meeting with key stakeholders—including Directors and Vice Chancellors of 731 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), officials from ICAR, and heads of agricultural universities—to ensure seamless execution and maximum outreach, in New Delhi on Wednesday.
As part of the event, ₹20,500 crore will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of 9.7 crore eligible farmers across the country, taking the total disbursement under PM-Kisan to ₹3.69 lakh crore since its launch in 2019.
Nationwide Campaign with Grassroots Participation
Calling for a “festival and mission mode” celebration, Chouhan instructed officials to ensure full connectivity from village to national level, and to organize widespread awareness campaigns across rural India. He emphasized the vital role of KVKs in mobilizing local participation and facilitating real-time benefit transfers.
The Minister also directed the involvement of Krishi Sakhis, Drone Didis, Bank Sakhis, Pashu Sakhis, Bima Sakhis, and Gram Panchayat Sarpanches to spread awareness and engage farmers effectively. Special focus will also be placed on interacting with farmers regarding Kharif crop planning during the event.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, PM-Kisan is not just a welfare programme, but a nationwide movement for empowering our annadatas,” said Chouhan.
Transparency Through Technology
Each eligible farmer receives ₹6,000 annually in three installments of ₹2,000 every four months through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The scheme ensures transparency, timely support, and financial inclusion for small and marginal farmers.
Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi, ICAR Director General Dr ML Jat, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture also attended the review meeting, reaffirming the government’s commitment to delivering benefits directly to the grassroots with speed and integrity.
The August 2 event is expected to serve as both a financial lifeline and a platform to update farmers on emerging agricultural technologies, schemes, and seasonal strategies.
