Rayagada: Odisha received a major boost to rural infrastructure and inclusive development as the Centre launched a fresh growth agenda under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV (PMGSY-IV), alongside multi-sector funding approvals.

On Friday, Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, unveiled a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening connectivity, housing, irrigation, livelihoods, and rural infrastructure across the state.

Under PMGSY-IV, Odisha has been sanctioned 827 new roads spanning 1,701.84 km, with an investment of ₹1,698.04 crore. The programme also includes additional support to complete previously approved but unfinished road projects, ensuring last-mile connectivity to remote and hilly regions.

In a parallel push to rural welfare, ₹630.61 crore has been approved for housing under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin, ₹868.71 crore released as the first instalment under MGNREGA for 2026–27, and ₹30.07 crore sanctioned under WDC-PMKSY 2.0 for watershed development.

Addressing the gathering, Chouhan emphasised that roads serve as lifelines for economic and social progress, linking rural communities to employment, education, and healthcare opportunities. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that no poor family remains in a kutcha house.

The announcements also reinforced a broader development agenda focused on women empowerment, farmer income enhancement, and livelihood generation. Initiatives such as self-help group strengthening, Lakhpati Didi, and diversified agriculture practices including animal husbandry, fisheries, and beekeeping were highlighted as key growth drivers.

Chief Minister Majhi said the scale of approvals reflects strong Centre-state coordination, adding that PMGSY-IV would play a transformative role in connecting underserved regions and accelerating Odisha’s ‘Samruddha Odisha, Viksit Odisha’ vision.

The event, held in Rayagada on Labour Day, also witnessed the inauguration of multiple projects and distribution of benefits to beneficiaries, underlining the government’s focus on grassroots development and inclusive growth.
