New Delhi, August 13: The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), a statutory body under the Ministry of Cooperation, is driving multiple initiatives to promote, strengthen, and develop farmer cooperatives across India.

Union Minister for Cooperation Amit Shah stated this in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Established in 1963, NCDC supports programmes in agricultural marketing, processing, storage, cold chain, and the supply of seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs. In the non-farm sector, the focus extends to dairy, livestock, handloom, sericulture, poultry, fishery, and cooperatives for women and marginalized communities.

The Corporation runs its own schemes, including Yuva Sahakar to encourage innovative new cooperatives; Ayushman Sahakar for healthcare and holistic health systems; Nandini Sahakar for empowering women’s cooperatives; Dairy Sahakar for ESG-focused dairy initiatives; Swayam Shakti Sahakar Yojna for loans to Women Self Help Groups; and Deerghavadhi Krishak Punji Sahakar Yojna for long-term agricultural credit.

NCDC also implements central government schemes such as the Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure sub-scheme, Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture, PM Matsya Sampada Yojana, PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises, and the Formation of 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations programme. Additional support extends to seed production, livestock development under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, and cold chain projects under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana.

Other initiatives include partnerships with the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation, National Livestock Mission, and state-level subsidies like those from the Maharashtra government, he added.
