INS Sutlej Arrives in Mauritius for 18th Joint Hydrographic Survey Mission
The mission, which began on September 29, 2025, is being conducted under the bilateral MoU on hydrography renewed earlier this year at the 14th Joint Committee Meeting on Hydrography.
New Delhi, October 3: Indian Navy’s specialised hydrographic survey vessel INS Sutlej has reached Port Louis to undertake the 18th Joint Hydrographic Survey with Mauritius. The mission, which began on September 29, 2025, is being conducted under the bilateral MoU on hydrography renewed earlier this year at the 14th Joint Committee Meeting on Hydrography.
The survey will map an extensive area of about 35,000 square nautical miles, with a focus on enhancing navigational safety and supporting sustainable ocean resource management. As part of capacity-building efforts, officers from various Mauritian ministries will join the vessel for hands-on training in hydrographic data collection and processing.
The Indian Navy said the deployment of INS Sutlej underscores the longstanding maritime cooperation between India and Mauritius. It also reaffirms the two nations’ shared commitment to scientific collaboration and regional security in the Indian Ocean Region.
Officials noted that the mission continues a legacy of partnership in hydrography, deepening strategic maritime ties while fostering knowledge exchange and mutual growth.
