Goa, December 15: The Indian Navy will commission its second MH-60R helicopter squadron, INAS 335 (Ospreys), on December 17 at INS Hansa in Goa, marking a significant step in strengthening the navy’s aviation and maritime combat capabilities.

The commissioning ceremony will take place in the presence of Dinesh K. Tripathi, chief of the naval staff, and will represent a key milestone in the Indian Navy’s ongoing modernisation and force enhancement programme.

Equipped with advanced weapons, sensors and a state-of-the-art avionics suite, the MH-60R helicopter is designed to address both conventional and asymmetric threats across the maritime domain. The platform significantly enhances the navy’s capabilities in anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, surveillance and search-and-rescue operations.

According to the navy, the aircraft has already been fully integrated with fleet operations and has demonstrated its operational effectiveness on multiple occasions. The commissioning of INAS 335 is expected to provide a major boost to the navy’s integral aviation capabilities and operational readiness.

INS Hansa, the navy’s premier air station, continues to play a critical role in supporting frontline naval aviation units and inducting next-generation airborne platforms into service.

The induction of the MH-60R squadron aligns with the Indian Navy’s broader objective of maintaining maritime superiority and enhancing combat preparedness across the Indian Ocean region.
