New Delhi: India has intensified efforts to strengthen cooperation among BRICS nations in the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector by convening the second SME Working Group Meeting under the BRICS Partnership on the New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) framework.

Led by the Ministry of MSME, the meeting was held on May 26 as part of India’s BRICS Chairship 2026 and focused on the theme “Enhancing Access to Technology for MSMEs.”

The discussions brought together representatives from BRICS member countries to deliberate on strategies for harnessing innovation, technology commercialisation and workforce development to improve technology adoption among MSMEs.

According to the Ministry of MSME, the meeting centred on two key themes — “Harnessing Innovations and Technology Commercialization for MSMEs” and “Skilling and Development of Industry-Ready Manpower for MSME Tech Adoption.”

The deliberations highlighted the critical role played by MSMEs in economic growth, employment generation, innovation and inclusive development across BRICS economies.

Participants stressed the need for a multi-pronged approach to bridge technology gaps faced by small businesses through greater digital inclusion, stronger innovation ecosystems and improved technology readiness.

The meeting also emphasised the importance of equipping MSMEs with the capabilities needed to integrate more effectively into regional and global value chains.

Officials said the discussions reinforced the need for deeper cooperation among BRICS countries in areas such as technology access, innovation support systems and skill development frameworks for MSMEs.

The event provided a platform for member countries to exchange policy experiences, best practices and lessons from their respective MSME development programmes while addressing common developmental challenges.

As part of India’s BRICS Chairship 2026 agenda, the Ministry of MSME plans to organise three SME Working Group meetings and the inaugural BRICS MSME Forum, focusing on access to finance, technology adoption and sustainability-oriented growth.

The ministry said the meeting generated valuable insights for advancing technology-driven growth and capacity building among MSMEs while strengthening collaboration across BRICS economies to build more resilient, inclusive and globally competitive small business sectors.
