NEW DELHI: India Post has recorded its highest-ever first-quarter revenue, generating ₹4,009 crore during Q1 of FY 2026-27, marking a robust 22% year-on-year growth over the corresponding period last year. The Department of Posts achieved 81% of its quarterly target of ₹4,951 crore, reinforcing its ongoing transformation into a digitally enabled, customer-centric public service institution.
The performance was reviewed during the Department’s Quarterly Business Review Meeting held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, chaired by Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, in the presence of Minister of State for Communications, Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, along with Heads of Postal Circles from across the country.
Against an ambitious annual revenue target of ₹19,803 crore, the Department’s strong start reflects increasing business across multiple service verticals and improved operational efficiency.
Citizen Services Lead Growth
Among India Post’s six business verticals, Citizen Centric Services (CCS) emerged as the fastest-growing segment with an impressive 86% year-on-year growth.
Other key performers included:
- Parcel Services: 50%
- Mail Services: 42%
- International Relations & Global Business (IR&GB): 34%
- Postal Life Insurance/Rural Postal Life Insurance (PLI/RPLI): 20%
- Post Office Savings Bank (POSB): 10%
The broad-based expansion indicates that India Post’s traditional and digital services are witnessing strong demand across customer segments.
Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal Top Performers
Overall, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal emerged as the best-performing Postal Circles during the first quarter.
The top-performing circles across individual business segments were:

- POSB: Down by over 92%
- PLI/RPLI: Down by 97%
- Speed Post & Parcel: Down by 99%
The improvement reflects stronger customer outreach and increased business generation across the postal network.
Financial Sustainability Improves
The Department also strengthened its financial performance during the quarter.
Its Expenditure Coverage Ratio (ECR) improved:
- Including pension: From 28% to 32%
- Excluding pension: From 41% to 47%
Among the Postal Circles, Delhi, Telangana and Chhattisgarh recorded notable improvements in financial efficiency.
Focus on Parcels and Global Business
While appreciating the encouraging results, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stressed the need for greater focus on Parcel, Mail, and International Relations & Global Business segments during the remaining quarters of FY 2026-27.
He called upon Postal Circles to strengthen customer acquisition, deepen engagement with corporate and institutional clients, expand strategic partnerships, and leverage data-driven monitoring to meet the Department’s ambitious annual targets.
The Minister also proposed a cluster-based approach, grouping states into three clusters to facilitate peer learning, targeted interventions and faster dissemination of best practices.
Minister of State Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani attributed the Department’s strong performance to regular monitoring, disciplined execution and the commitment of postal employees across the country, urging all circles to sustain the momentum through teamwork and continuous performance reviews.
