Chandigarh, August 12: The Energy Solutions business of Godrej Enterprises Group has commissioned its first solar carport installation at a leading IT company in Noida, marking a significant step in urban clean energy innovation.

Covering 31,984 square metres and fitted with 1,031 high-efficiency solar panels, the structure is designed to generate around 7,31,900 kWh annually, offsetting nearly 6,00,158 kg of CO₂ emissions — equivalent to planting over 27,568 mature trees. The dual-purpose facility offers shaded parking for 400 vehicles while transforming underutilised urban space into a renewable energy hub.

“With cities becoming denser and space growing scarcer, infrastructure must evolve to be both intelligent and sustainable,” said Raghavendra Mirji, Executive Vice President & Business Head, Energy Solutions. “This solar carport exemplifies our approach to nation-building — delivering engineering solutions that meet urban energy needs while strengthening climate resilience.”

The project supports India’s target of 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030 and aligns with its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) to reduce carbon intensity. It also reflects the government’s push for energy-positive, climate-resilient cities that can drive inclusive growth while mitigating environmental risks.

As Tier-1 cities face constraints in deploying large-scale solar plants, solar carports are emerging as scalable, space-smart solutions for corporates to integrate clean energy into existing infrastructure. Godrej’s design blends functionality and aesthetics, setting a precedent for future-ready urban development.

This initiative is part of Godrej Enterprises Group’s broader mission to advance sustainable technologies and position India as a global leader in clean energy — a key enabler of the country’s vision for a Viksit Bharat by 2047, it added.
