Civil Aviation Minister Launches Udan Yatri Cafe at Vijayawada Airport
Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapau inaugurates the Udan Yatri Cafe at Vijayawada International Airport on Monday.
Vijayawada, September 30: Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapau on Monday inaugurated the Udan Yatri Cafe at Vijayawada International Airport, marking the seventh such facility in the country. The initiative, designed to offer affordable food and beverages to air passengers, is already operational at airports in Kolkata, Pune, Chennai, Bhubaneswar, Ahmedabad and Hollongi.
The café will provide tea at ₹10 and coffee, snacks and sweets at ₹20, aiming to make airport dining more accessible. “No air passenger should travel on an empty stomach,” the minister said during the inauguration, announcing that more Udan Yatri Cafes will be rolled out at airports nationwide in a phased manner.
The event was attended by Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, Airports Authority of India (AAI) Members Dr Sharad Kumar (Operations) and Dr H. Srinivas (HR), along with senior AAI officials.
Highlighting ongoing development at Vijayawada International Airport, the minister said the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) is nearing completion and will be ready in the coming months. Once operational, the new terminal is expected to significantly enhance passenger capacity.
He also announced plans to connect Vijayawada directly to Singapore with a new international route, alongside new domestic services to Ahmedabad, Varanasi, and Pune.
As part of the “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam” initiative, the minister planted a sapling in the airport’s cityside area, underscoring the government’s commitment to sustainable development.
