Indian Navy Signs Contract for 4 Fuel Barges with Shoft Shipyard
The contract was concluded on Monday with the Thane-based MSME shipyard, reinforcing the government’s thrust on indigenisation under the “Make in India” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives.
New Delhi: The Indian Navy has signed a contract with Shoft Shipyard Pvt Ltd for the construction of four 500-tonne self-propelled fuel barges.
The contract was concluded on Monday with the Thane-based MSME shipyard, reinforcing the government’s thrust on indigenisation under the “Make in India” and “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives.
The barges will be built in accordance with the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping.
The primary role of these vessels will be to supply fuel to Indian Navy ships and submarines while in harbour and at anchorage, enhancing operational logistics and fleet support capabilities.
With this contract, the Indian Navy continues to promote the growth of MSME shipyards, strengthening the domestic shipbuilding ecosystem in line with Maritime India Vision 2030.
