Ministry of Ayush to Inaugurate 9th Siddha Day Celebrations in Chennai on January 3
The Vice President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, will preside over and inaugurate the celebrations.
Chennai, January 2: The Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, in association with the National Institute of Siddha (NIS), the Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) and the Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy, Government of Tamil Nadu, will celebrate the 9th Siddha Day on January 3, 2026, at Kalaivanar Arangam, Chennai. National Siddha Day is observed annually on January 6 to mark the birth anniversary of Sage Agathiyar, revered as the father of the Siddha system of medicine.
Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, will preside over and inaugurate the celebrations. The event will be attended by Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush and Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare; Ma. Subramanian, Minister for Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu; Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush; P. Senthil Kumar, Principal Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Tamil Nadu; and M. Vijayalakshmi, Director, Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy.
The theme of the 9th Siddha Day celebrations, “Siddha for Global Health,” underscores the global relevance of India’s ancient medical tradition in addressing contemporary health challenges and promoting holistic well-being.
The event will bring together Siddha practitioners, scientists, academicians, researchers, scholars and students from across Tamil Nadu and other States. Senior members of Siddha statutory bodies, researchers from NIS and CCRS, and officials from the Ministry of Ayush and the Government of Tamil Nadu will also participate. Large numbers of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students from Government Siddha Medical Colleges in Chennai and Palayamkottai, as well as self-financing Siddha colleges in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, are expected to attend.
On the occasion, the Ministry of Ayush will honour five eminent personalities for their exemplary contributions to the Siddha system of medicine.
According to the Ministry, the 9th Siddha Day celebrations will highlight Siddha’s role in preventive healthcare, research and global wellness, while reaffirming the Government’s commitment to strengthening Siddha medicine through academic advancement, research collaboration and wider international recognition.
