New Delhi, December 13: The Election Commission of India has appointed special roll observers to oversee the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in eight major states, including West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
The special roll observers have already begun their assignments and will be present in the respective states at least two days a week until the final electoral rolls are published in February 2026.
According to the Commission, the observers will hold meetings with state-level and district-level leadership of national and state political parties to ensure wide participation and transparency in the revision process.
They will also interact with chief electoral officers and district election officers, either in person or through virtual meetings, to monitor progress and address operational challenges during the exercise.
The Election Commission said the deployment of special roll observers is aimed at ensuring that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral rolls and that no ineligible person is included, thereby strengthening the accuracy and integrity of the voter database.
