New Delhi, October 23: The Government of India has launched SOAR (Skilling for AI Readiness), a transformative national initiative designed to prepare school students and educators for an AI-driven future. Spearheaded by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), the program aligns with the Skill India Mission and Viksit Bharat @2047 vision to build a digitally empowered, self-reliant nation.

Empowering the Next Generation

SOAR targets students from Classes 6 to 12 and educators, integrating AI literacy into India’s education framework. The curriculum includes:

  • Three 15-hour modules for students on AI fundamentals, machine learning, and ethical AI use.
  • One 45-hour module for educators focused on integrating AI into classroom teaching.

The Union Budget 2025–26 has allocated ₹500 crore to establish a Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for Education, which will drive AI adoption and innovation in learning environments.

Building a Future-Ready Workforce

Since FY 2022–23, over 1,480 apprentices have been trained in AI-related roles—such as AI Data Engineer and Machine Learning Engineer—under NAPS 2.0 (National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme). AI-focused courses are also being offered through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs), and the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH).

SOAR also supports the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 4.0, embedding AI and digital learning into vocational education to enhance employability and entrepreneurship.

Advancing Digital Inclusion

By leveraging platforms like SIDH, SOAR ensures equitable access to AI training for students across both government and private schools, narrowing the urban–rural digital divide. The program aims to produce AI-aware students capable of ethical technology use and AI-trained educators who can champion innovation in classrooms.

Toward a Smart and Self-Reliant India

Through SOAR, India is building the foundation for a tech-driven, inclusive economy, where AI literacy and innovation become integral to growth. The program not only addresses the global shortage of AI skills but also strengthens India’s position as a leader in AI education and workforce development.

By embedding AI into the nation’s learning and skilling ecosystem, SOAR represents a cornerstone of India’s digital transformation journey—empowering youth, educators, and institutions to lead the world in next-generation technology and ethical innovation.
