Fortis Mohali Marks Organ Donation Day, Over 50 Employees Pledge to Donate

The session was led by Dr Sahil Rally, Consultant – Kidney Transplant, and Dr Amit Sharma, Senior Consultant – Nephrology, Dialysis and Kidney Transplant.
Chandigarh, August 14: Fortis Hospital Mohali on Wednesday observed Organ Donation Day with an awareness session aimed at encouraging more people to pledge their organs and help save lives. More than 50 employees from various departments took an oath to donate their organs, committing to what doctors described as the “gift of life.”
The session was led by Dr Sahil Rally, Consultant – Kidney Transplant, and Dr Amit Sharma, Senior Consultant – Nephrology, Dialysis and Kidney Transplant, who addressed the urgent need for organ donors in India. They discussed the types of organs and tissues that can be donated, the registration process, and the life-saving impact each donor can make.
Highlighting the hospital’s achievements, Dr Rally noted that since September 2023, Fortis Mohali has conducted 17 organ transplants, including 14 kidney and three liver transplants. “One donor alone has the potential to save up to eight lives by donating vital organs such as the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, and intestines, and improve the lives of others through tissue donations like skin, corneas, hands, heart valves, tendons, bones, and ligaments,” he said.
The doctors urged the public to help bridge the gap between the number of patients waiting for transplants and the limited availability of donors, calling organ donation a true boon to humanity.
