New Delhi, August 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday applauded the commissioning of India’s first Make-in-India Green Hydrogen Plant in the port sector by the Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla, calling it a significant stride in advancing the country’s Net-Zero emissions vision.

Responding to the announcement on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister said:

“This is a commendable effort, championing sustainability and powering our Net-Zero vision.”

The Deendayal Port Authority’s post celebrated the successful commissioning of the green hydrogen facility, highlighting it as a milestone in green innovation and a direct contribution to the government’s clean energy goals. The port has become the first in India to operationalize such a facility under the Make-in-India initiative, specifically designed to decarbonize the port and shipping sector.

Pioneering Step in Green Energy

The plant is expected to produce green hydrogen using renewable energy sources, reinforcing the government’s push toward sustainable port development and aligning with India’s commitment to become a net-zero economy by 2070.

Experts see the development as a catalyst for greening the maritime sector, which is integral to India’s international trade and economic infrastructure. By enabling clean fuel alternatives within port operations, the initiative aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and cut emissions significantly.

The move also supports broader policy frameworks such as the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which seeks to make India a global hub for the production, usage, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.

Leadership in Sustainability

The Prime Minister’s endorsement signals the high priority accorded by the central government to green innovation across sectors. It also underscores the role of strategic infrastructure like ports in achieving climate goals and fostering energy security, industrial transformation, and technological leadership.

With this commissioning, the Deendayal Port Authority sets a precedent for other ports and industrial clusters to integrate clean energy solutions, advancing India’s roadmap for a resilient, sustainable, and net-zero future.
