UIDAI Makes Aadhaar Email Updates Free Through Aadhaar App for Six Months
More than 2.5 lakh residents update email IDs within two days as UIDAI expands digital Aadhaar services
The new facility became effective on July 1, 2026, and will remain available free for six months through the Aadhaar App.

New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has enabled residents to add or update their email ID in Aadhaar free of cost through the Aadhaar App, eliminating the need to visit an Aadhaar enrolment or update centre.
The new facility became effective on July 1, 2026, and will remain available free for six months through the Aadhaar App. The initiative is aimed at making Aadhaar services more accessible while advancing the Government’s digital governance and ease-of-living objectives.
According to UIDAI, the response has been encouraging, with more than 2.5 lakh residents updating their email addresses within the first two days of the service becoming available.
Linking an email ID with Aadhaar enables residents to receive real-time email alerts whenever Aadhaar authentication is carried out, providing an additional layer of transparency and security. The feature allows Aadhaar holders to stay informed whenever their Aadhaar number is used for authentication.
The latest update further expands the capabilities of the new Aadhaar App, which already allows residents to update their mobile number and address directly from their smartphones without requiring a visit to an Aadhaar centre.
UIDAI said the Aadhaar App has already witnessed widespread adoption. More than 40 lakh residents have updated their mobile numbers using the application, while nearly 10 lakh users have utilised it to update their address details.
The authority has encouraged Aadhaar holders to take advantage of the free email update facility by downloading or updating the Aadhaar App, available on both Android and Apple iOS platforms.
The initiative is part of UIDAI’s broader effort to simplify citizen services through digital channels and reduce dependence on physical service centres. By enabling secure, app-based profile updates, the authority aims to improve user convenience while strengthening digital identity management under India’s expanding Digital Public Infrastructure ecosystem.
