New Delhi: India will host the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Gurugram, Haryana, on June 25–26, 2026, bringing together Energy Ministers and senior officials from all BRICS member nations to strengthen cooperation on energy security, sustainability, innovation and equitable access to energy.

The meeting is being held under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, guided by the overarching theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability (BRICS)”. Within the Energy Track, India has adopted the theme “सर्वेषां ऊर्जम्” (Energy for All), underscoring the collective commitment of BRICS nations towards universal energy access and sustainable development.

BRICS now comprises 11 member countries — Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and United Arab Emirates. Together, these countries account for nearly half of the world’s population and approximately 40 per cent of global GDP.

The ministerial meeting comes at a crucial time when nations worldwide are striving to balance energy security, affordability and sustainability amid rising energy demand, climate challenges and rapid technological transformation. India’s energy priorities align closely with these objectives, focusing on strengthening energy security, expanding clean energy deployment, enhancing grid resilience and ensuring affordable access to power.

The event will also provide India with an opportunity to showcase its remarkable energy transition journey. Over the past decade, the country has increased its solar power capacity more than fifty-fold, deployed over 60 million smart meters and set an ambitious target of achieving 410 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2032.

India has further strengthened its energy infrastructure through major initiatives such as the expansion of the national transmission network, development of Green Energy Corridors, implementation of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), and promotion of regional power connectivity through the One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG) initiative.

In the biofuels sector, India has achieved 20 per cent ethanol blending and recently introduced E85 fuel, reflecting its commitment to cleaner energy alternatives and reduced carbon emissions. The country has also emerged as a global advocate for renewable energy through initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance and the Global Biofuels Alliance.

Ahead of the ministerial meeting, three virtual meetings of Senior Energy Officials and two thematic seminars on Artificial Intelligence in the energy sector and Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technologies have already been conducted to build consensus on priority areas for cooperation.

The schedule includes the Fourth Meeting of the BRICS Committee of Senior Energy Officials from June 22–24, side events on Clean Coal Technologies and Electrical Appliance Standards, followed by the Energy Ministers’ Meeting on June 25–26. A virtual BRICS Youth Energy Summit is also scheduled for August 17–18, 2026.

Officials expect the Gurugram meeting to strengthen collaboration among BRICS nations on resilient energy systems, emerging technologies, sustainable development and secure energy supply chains. The gathering is also expected to reinforce India’s leadership role in advancing the priorities of the Global South and shaping a more inclusive and sustainable global energy future.
