New Delhi: In a rare and significant disciplinary action, the Centre has removed AGMUT cadre IAS officer Padma Jaiswal from service following a long-running corruption inquiry linked to her tenure as deputy commissioner of West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh during 2007-08, The Arunachal Times reported on Friday.

According to reports, the case involved allegations of misappropriation of public funds, abuse of official position, and diversion of government money. She had earlier been suspended in 2008 and later reinstated while disciplinary proceedings continued. The final decision reportedly came after consultations involving the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC), Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), Ministry of Home Affairs, and Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

Reports indicate that the UPSC recommended her removal after the inquiry concluded. The disciplinary proceedings were revived after legal hurdles were cleared earlier this year.

The action is being described as highly unusual because outright dismissal of serving IAS officers is extremely rare in India’s civil services system.

Some reports also noted that Jaiswal said she was “not aware” of any formal dismissal order when contacted by mediapersons.
