MUMBAI: N.A.N. Silox GreenMet has appointed Vijay Pasupathy as chief executive officer as it advances a planned ₹1,400 crore lithium-ion battery recycling and critical-metals recovery facility at Naidupeta in Andhra Pradesh.

The company said it had secured Consent to Establish and begun groundbreaking for the project. The 50:50 joint venture between India’s N.A.N. GreenMet and Belgium-based Silox Group also plans additional investment in precursor cathode active material (pCAM) and cathode active material (CAM) manufacturing.

Pasupathy brings more than two decades of experience in industrial strategy and operations. He previously served as executive vice-president at Epsilon Advanced Materials and held senior roles at Orbia and EY. He will oversee plant execution and the proposed expansion into engineered cathode materials.

Developed in phases, the Naidupeta facility is planned to reach an eventual annual capacity of 40,000 tonnes for shredding and 20,000 tonnes for hydrometallurgical processing. The latter uses chemical processes to extract and refine metals from recovered battery materials.

The company said the plant would produce high-purity, battery-grade salts suitable for downstream cathode material production. It is pursuing global technology partnerships for that expansion, but did not disclose the additional investment amount or an operating timeline.

Cathode materials are a key component of lithium-ion batteries. Linking recycling with their manufacture could help retain recovered critical metals within India’s battery supply chain, although the proposed downstream operations remain under development.

N.A.N. GreenMet director and co-founder Naivedya Agarwal said the expansion was intended to enable minerals recovered in India to be processed further and reused in domestically manufactured batteries.

Silox Group chairman Jean-Christophe Bogaert said the new leadership team would support industrial deployment of the group’s hydrometallurgical technology and discussions on cathode material partnerships.

The company also appointed Rakesh Patel as chief operating officer, Harish Aich as chief technology officer, M. Sri Rama Krishna Murthy as deputy chief financial officer, Partha Reddy as chief supply chain officer and Alisha Abbas as head of human resources.
