Monsoon Session of Parliament Begins July 21; 17 Legislative Items on Agenda

New Delhi, July 20: Ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the government on Saturday held a key meeting with leaders of political parties to ensure smooth proceedings during the month-long session. A total of 54 leaders from 40 political parties, including Union Ministers, attended the all-party meeting chaired by Health Minister and Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha, Jagat Prakash Nadda, in the Parliament House Complex.
The meeting was convened by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who informed attendees that the session will begin on July 21 and is scheduled to run until August 21, comprising 21 sittings over 32 days. Both Houses will be adjourned on August 12 and reconvene on August 18 to accommodate Independence Day celebrations.
Seventeen legislative and other business items have been tentatively identified for discussion during the session. Rijiju said the government is fully prepared to take up all listed items and also welcomed discussion on other important issues raised by parties in accordance with parliamentary rules.
Leaders of various political parties expressed their views and outlined issues they intend to raise during the session, assuring cooperation for effective legislative functioning. Nadda thanked all participants for their constructive engagement and said the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs has noted all suggestions for appropriate follow-up.
