Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal launches Angikaar 2025 in New Delhi on Friday.
New Delhi, September 6: Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal on Friday launched Angikaar 2025, a last-mile outreach campaign under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0), in New Delhi. The launch event was attended by Minister of State Tokhan Sahu, MoHUA Secretary Srinivas Katikithala, Mission Director Kuldip Narayan, and senior officials of the ministry.
Accelerating Housing for All
Angikaar 2025 is designed to fast-track the implementation of PMAY-U 2.0 by raising awareness about the scheme, verifying applications, and expediting the completion of sanctioned houses. The campaign also highlights the Credit Risk Guarantee Fund Trust for Low Income Housing (CRGFTLIH) scheme and ensures last-mile delivery through community mobilisation, targeted engagement, and convergence with other central government programmes.
Beneficiaries of PMAY-U will also be linked to the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, while housing needs of Special Focus Groups identified under PMAY-U 2.0 will be prioritised.
Scale and Reach
Running from September 4 to October 31, 2025, the campaign will cover 5,000+ Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across India. Activities include door-to-door outreach, awareness drives, loan melas, cultural events, and camps to strengthen Jan Bhagidari (people’s participation).
Currently, under PMAY-U, 120 lakh houses have been sanctioned, out of which 94.11 lakh pucca houses have already been delivered. The campaign will push for completion of the remaining projects while supporting one crore additional families under PMAY-U 2.0 with financial assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh for constructing or purchasing pucca houses in cities.
Anchor Events and Celebrations
As part of the campaign, PMAY-U Awas Diwas will be celebrated on September 17, 2025, marking one year of PMAY-U 2.0. A flagship event, the PM Awas Mela – Shehri, will be organised at district headquarters and municipal corporation levels in larger cities. This mela will be held in two phases—September 17–27 and October 16–31—and will showcase the benefits of PMAY-U while promoting grassroots engagement.
ULBs will also conduct ward- and city-level activities to build momentum, further strengthening public participation in the Angikaar 2025 campaign.
Driving Inclusive Urban Growth
Speaking after the launch, officials underscored that Angikaar 2025 reaffirms the government’s vision of Housing for All, ensuring affordable, inclusive, and citizen-centric urban development. The campaign is expected to play a crucial role in bridging the implementation gap and bringing welfare schemes closer to vulnerable communities across urban India.
