INOXAP flags off India’s first LNG-fuelled cryogenic tanker

Vadodara, January 8: INOX Air Products (INOXAP) has flagged off India’s first LNG-fuelled cryogenic tanker, marking a major milestone in sustainable transportation within the industrial gas sector. The tanker has been approved by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO), under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), ministry of commerce.
The deployment has been enabled by a June 2025 amendment to the Static and Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired) Rules, 2016, notified by DPIIT, which allows the use of liquefied natural gas as a transport fuel for cryogenic tankers. With this, INOXAP has become the first industrial gas manufacturer in the country to operationalise an LNG-fuelled cryogenic transport vehicle, signalling the government’s push towards cleaner and greener logistics.
The tanker was flagged off by P. Seeniraj, joint chief controller of explosives, PESO Vadodara circle. It is powered by a 450-litre Kryopower LNG fuel tank manufactured by INOX India, India’s largest cryogenic equipment producer. According to the company, the LNG-fuelled vehicle can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 25 per cent, cut particulate emissions by 95 per cent and deliver quieter, more efficient operations, while also enabling long-term cost optimisation.
Commenting on the milestone, Siddharth Jain, director, INOX Group, said the initiative represents a transformative step for sustainable logistics in India’s industrial gases sector. He said the achievement reflects the convergence of progressive policy support, indigenous engineering capability and sustainable innovation, while setting a new benchmark for clean-energy adoption in heavy transportation.
Inspired by the Make in India vision, the initiative also stands out as a Made-in-Gujarat achievement. Both the cryogenic tanker and the LNG fuel tank have been indigenously designed and manufactured at INOXCVA facilities in Gujarat. The industrial gases carried by the tanker will be produced by INOXAP within the state and supplied primarily to customers across Gujarat, creating a localised, efficient and resilient supply chain.
The company said the milestone was made possible through proactive support from DPIIT, PESO and Gujarat state government departments, underscoring the state’s commitment to innovation, sustainability and industrial growth.
INOX Air Products is India’s largest manufacturer of industrial, electronic and specialty gases, operating more than 50 production locations with a combined liquid gas capacity exceeding 4,700 tonnes per day, serving over 1,800 customers across multiple industrial sectors.
