Hyderabad, August 20: Not in a remote village or a forgotten corner, but right at Balamrai in Secunderabad — near the pump house opposite Paradise Hotel — stands a statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, installed over two decades ago. Yet, let’s be honest: it hardly reflects the true personality of Rajiv Gandhi, one of the most handsome and visionary leaders India has seen.
In contrast, the statue at the Telangana Secretariat — where CM Revanth Reddy and Congress leaders paid floral tributes today — carries far more dignity, craftsmanship, and resemblance.
It is time for Congress leaders, many of whom cross Balamrai almost every day, to reflect on whether the existing statue does justice to Rajiv Gandhi’s legacy. A modern, realistic statue that captures his persona would be a true tribute.
After all, a great leader deserves a great memorial.
