Cloudflare Acquires VoidZero to Accelerate AI-Native Web Development
Deal brings Vite ecosystem and core open-source team into Cloudflare; company commits $1 million to support independent Vite community
The acquisition brings Vite, one of the world's most popular JavaScript build tools, along with related technologies including the Vitest testing framework, Rolldown bundler and Oxc toolchain, into the Cloudflare ecosystem.

Bengaluru: Cloudflare has acquired VoidZero, the open source-first company behind the widely used JavaScript tooling ecosystem Vite, in a move aimed at creating a faster and more seamless development environment for AI-native applications.
The acquisition brings Vite, one of the world’s most popular JavaScript build tools, along with related technologies including the Vitest testing framework, Rolldown bundler and Oxc toolchain, into the Cloudflare ecosystem. The company also announced a $1 million independent Vite ecosystem fund to support open-source maintainers and contributors.
Cloudflare said the integration will combine VoidZero’s high-performance development tools with Cloudflare’s global edge network and Workers developer platform, enabling developers to move from local code development to global deployment through a simplified workflow.
The acquisition comes at a time when artificial intelligence is reshaping software development. As AI coding assistants and autonomous development agents become increasingly capable of generating application code, demand is rising for infrastructure that can rapidly move applications from development to production environments.
According to Cloudflare, Vite currently records more than 130 million weekly downloads, while the Cloudflare Vite plugin has reached nearly 13.9 million weekly downloads, reflecting strong adoption among developers building modern web applications.
Matthew Prince, co-founder and chief executive officer of Cloudflare, said the acquisition aligns with the company’s focus on speed and simplicity.
“The best engineers I know are shipping more code than ever, and writing less of it by hand. AI is doing more of the typing, so everything around it has to keep up,” Prince said.
Under the agreement, VoidZero founder Evan You and his team of open-source developers and Rust optimisation specialists will join Cloudflare’s Emerging Technology and Incubation organisation while continuing to advance the open-source roadmap of the Vite ecosystem.
Cloudflare outlined three strategic priorities following the acquisition. These include integrating the Cloudflare command-line interface with Vite workflows, introducing intent-based infrastructure provisioning that automatically allocates cloud resources based on application requirements, and maintaining the independence and open-source governance of Vite, Vitest, Rolldown and Oxc under MIT licences.
The company said the new development model will allow both developers and AI agents to move from application design to global deployment with minimal operational complexity.
Industry observers view the acquisition as a significant step in the evolution of AI-assisted software development, where development tools, cloud infrastructure and deployment platforms are increasingly converging into unified ecosystems.
