Bharat Connect Records Strong Uptake of e-Challan Payments in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana
Since the rollout of the service in October 2025, Andhra Pradesh Traffic Police have processed more than 4.5 lakh e-challan transactions, while Telangana Traffic Police have recorded over 1.3 lakh transactions, highlighting growing citizen adoption of digital payment channels for traffic penalties.
Over 5.8 lakh traffic challan transactions processed since October 2025 through unified digital platform
Mumbai: NPCI Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL) has reported strong early adoption of the e-Challan payment category on its Bharat Connect platform, with traffic police departments in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana recording significant volumes of digital challan payments, an official statement said on Thursday.
The momentum continued in February 2026, when 1,02,096 transactions were recorded in Andhra Pradesh and 22,882 in Telangana, reflecting increasing awareness and usage of the platform for seamless discovery and payment of traffic violation fines.
Unified platform simplifies challan payments
The e-Challan category on Bharat Connect enables citizens to discover pending traffic challans, make instant payments, and receive digital receipts in real time, eliminating manual processes and long queues.
Traditionally, challan payments have remained relatively less digitised, with citizens relying on cash payments, point-of-sale machines at the site of issuance, or separate state-level portals. Bharat Connect aims to streamline this process by providing a single, standardised digital platform for challan payments across multiple channels.
Expanding awareness through digital outreach
To increase awareness of the service, authorities recently conducted an interactive drone campaign in Hyderabad, where floating digital screens were deployed at key traffic junctions to inform citizens about the availability of the e-Challan payment facility on Bharat Connect.
Strengthening digital public services
Commenting on the initiative, Noopur Chaturvedi said the e-Challan category demonstrates how technology platforms and public institutions can collaborate to improve citizen services.
“e-Challan category on Bharat Connect is more than a digital upgrade. It is a powerful example of how public institutions and technology platforms can work together to reimagine citizen services,” Chaturvedi said, thanking the traffic police departments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for supporting the initiative.
Nationwide expansion underway
The Bharat Connect platform is supported by more than 700 apps, banks and agent networks, ensuring citizens can access challan payments across digital and assisted channels.
Beyond Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the e-Challan payment category is now also live in Delhi and Gujarat, paving the way for wider adoption of digital traffic penalty payments across the country.
Officials said the initiative is expected to improve compliance, reduce payment friction for citizens, and provide a scalable model for digitising government service payments nationwide.
