Gandhinagar: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated the state-of-the-art automated milk processing and packaging plant of Madhur Dairy at Dashela village in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district, calling it a major step towards strengthening India’s cooperative dairy ecosystem and accelerating “White Revolution 2.0”.
The new Madhur Dairy Unit-2 plant, built at an estimated cost of ₹128 crore, has an initial milk processing capacity of 2.5 lakh litres per day, which will be expanded to 5 lakh litres per day in the future.
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said the Narendra Modi government’s “White Revolution 2.0” initiative aims to triple India’s milk production over the next 10 years while significantly increasing rural incomes through cooperative-led growth.
He said the dairy sector has emerged as one of the strongest pillars of India’s rural economy and women’s empowerment, particularly in Gujarat where nearly 36 lakh women are engaged in dairy-related cooperative activities generating business worth around ₹200 crore daily.
The minister highlighted that the modern dairy facility is equipped with advanced automation and technology-enabled systems designed to improve efficiency, quality control, and farmer income generation.
Amit Shah also stressed the importance of adopting circular economy principles in the dairy sector, stating that integrated utilisation of dairy by-products could increase sectoral income by up to 20 percent.
He praised the role of technology in rural transformation and referred to Amul’s AI-based digital assistant “Sarlaben” as an example of how artificial intelligence can empower women dairy farmers and livestock owners in rural India.
Established in 1971, Madhur Dairy has evolved into one of Gujarat’s major cooperative dairy institutions with an annual turnover of around ₹628 crore.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, state ministers, cooperative leaders, and senior dairy sector officials attended the inauguration ceremony.
