New Delhi: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has provided an update on its ongoing investigation into the crash of Learjet 45 aircraft VT-SSK at Baramati on January 28, 2026, confirming that data from the Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) has been successfully downloaded.

The Bureau said the investigation is being conducted strictly in accordance with the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2017, and international standards laid down under ICAO Annex 13.

Flight Recorders Damaged by Fire

The aircraft was equipped with two independent flight recorders — a DFDR manufactured by L3-Communications and a Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) manufactured by Honeywell. Both recorders were exposed to intense heat for a prolonged period during the accident and sustained fire damage.

Despite the damage, the DFDR has been successfully downloaded at the AAIB’s Flight Recorder Laboratory. The CVR is currently undergoing detailed technical examination. The Bureau has sought assistance from the Accredited Representative of the State of Manufacture for specialised support in retrieving data from the damaged recorder.

Evidence-Based, Transparent Investigation

AAIB stated that it is following all prescribed technical and procedural protocols to ensure that the probe remains comprehensive, objective and evidence-based.

The Bureau reiterated its commitment to transparency and said further updates will be shared at an appropriate stage of the investigation. It also urged stakeholders and the public to refrain from speculation and allow the investigative process to proceed in accordance with established procedures.
