New Delhi: The proposed Third Launch Pad (TLP) at Satish Dhawan Space Centre is targeted for completion by March 2029, with preliminary civil works already underway, the government informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

According to the update shared by Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Space Dr Jitendra Singh in a written reply to a question, geo-technical investigations and topography surveys at the TLP site were completed in the third quarter of 2025, following financial approval granted on March 21, 2025. All major systems have since been configured, and tender preparation is in progress. Two tenders have already been floated.

Civil works related to the construction of approach roads and the establishment of temporary power supply are currently in progress. Key pending milestones include the establishment of propellant storage and servicing systems, realization of the mobile launch pedestal, installation of lightning protection towers, laying of rail tracks connecting vehicle integration buildings, and construction of the jet deflection duct.

The government said private industries and micro, small and medium enterprises are expected to actively participate in the tendering process for the Third Launch Pad. All tenders will be floated and executed in accordance with existing departmental procurement mechanisms, with preference given to Make-in-India initiatives.
