SAMPANN Pension Portal Integrated with UMANG, Easing Access for Telecom Pensioners
With the integration, pensioners can now retrieve their Pension Payment Order (PPO) number and check the validity status of their Life Certificate through the UMANG mobile application or web portal.
New Delhi: The SAMPANN pension management system, developed by the Office of the Controller General of Communication Accounts, has been integrated with the UMANG platform, enabling easier digital access to pension-related information for about four lakh pensioners of the department of telecommunications across the country.
With the integration, pensioners can now retrieve their Pension Payment Order (PPO) number and check the validity status of their Life Certificate through the UMANG mobile application or web portal. Officials said the move ensures that critical pension information remains accessible anytime and anywhere through a single, unified digital interface.
Ashish Joshi, principal controller of communication accounts (Delhi), said the integration is aimed at improving ease of access, enhancing transparency, and ensuring seamless delivery of pension-related services. He added that the availability of SAMPANN services on UMANG, together with its recent integration with DigiLocker, reflects the department’s commitment to timely and transparent pension administration.
UMANG functions as a unified digital gateway for government services offered by central, state and local authorities. Developed under the Digital India programme, the platform is accessible via Android, iOS and web-based interfaces, allowing citizens to avail services using Aadhaar-based authentication.
About SAMPANN
SAMPANN, short for System for Accounting and Management of Pension, is the flagship digital pension platform of the department of telecommunications. Developed, owned and operated by the office of the controller general of communication accounts, the system was dedicated to the nation in December 2018.
The platform has digitised the entire pension lifecycle, covering initiation and processing of cases, issuance of electronic PPOs, pension disbursement, accounting, reconciliation, audit facilitation and grievance redressal. Pension payments are credited directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, eliminating the need for visits to banks or government offices.
Through SAMPANN, pensioners can submit life certificates, track payments, generate e-PPOs, request updates to personal details such as mobile numbers or addresses, and lodge grievances from home. The department also operates toll-free helplines to support senior citizens.
Services Available on UMANG
At present, two SAMPANN services are available on UMANG:
- retrieval of PPO numbers using bank or post office account details and date of birth, and
- checking the validity date of submitted life certificates using account details, registered mobile number or PPO number.
Officials said the integration marks another step towards pensioner-centric governance, reducing physical interfaces and improving service delivery for retirees and their families.
