CDSL launches first-ever student Ideathon to reimagine investor education and financial inclusion
Modelled on similar initiatives by SEBI and the RBI, the challenge encourages students to bring new perspectives that can drive wider participation in India’s capital markets.
Mumbai, November 19: CDSL, Asia’s first listed depository and custodian of more than 16.7 crore demat accounts, has launched its first Ideathon, inviting students nationwide to design fresh ideas that can shape the future of investor education and engagement. The Reimagine Ideathon forms part of the third edition of CDSL’s Annual Reimagine Symposium.
Through this initiative, CDSL aims to tap into young India’s creativity to rethink how the country learns about markets, invests and participates responsibly. India has over 21 crore demat accounts today, but participation in the securities market remains shallow. The Ideathon looks to bridge this gap by encouraging student innovators to solve barriers through technology, design, behavioural insights, communication and community-building.
Participants are free to explore ideas that reflect three core principles: empowerment, inclusion and trust. The prize pool totals ₹11.5 lakh, with ₹5 lakh for the winning entry and rewards for the top five teams. Registrations open on November 19, 2025, and teams of up to four students with one faculty mentor can apply via the official portal.
CDSL MD and CEO Nehal Vora said responsible innovation is central to building an intuitive, inclusive and secure market ecosystem. “Technology is the flywheel of trust. An educated investor is a protected investor,” he said, adding that the Ideathon aligns with India’s broader goal of nurturing an Atmanirbhar investor community.
Modelled on similar initiatives by SEBI and the RBI, the challenge encourages students to bring new perspectives that can drive wider participation in India’s capital markets. Officials said the Ideathon is designed to deepen financial literacy, improve digital trust and spark solutions that make investing simpler and more accessible for first-time investors.
