New Delhi, November 6: India has concluded two significant rounds of trade negotiations with Latin American partners — Peru and Chile — reinforcing its commitment to expanding economic cooperation and strengthening trade linkages with the region.
The 9th Round of India–Peru Trade Agreement negotiations was held in Lima from November 3 to 5, 2025. Discussions made substantive progress across key chapters, including Trade in Goods and Services, Rules of Origin, Technical Barriers to Trade, Customs Procedures, Dispute Settlement, and Critical Minerals.
The closing ceremony was attended by Teresa Stella Mera Gómez, Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru, and César Augusto Llona Silva, Vice Minister of Foreign Trade. The Indian side was represented by Vishvas Vidu Sapkal, Ambassador of India to Peru, and the Indian delegation led by Vimal Anand, Joint Secretary and Chief Negotiator.
In her remarks, Minister Gómez reaffirmed Peru’s commitment to the timely conclusion of the negotiations, citing the complementarity between the two economies and expressing optimism that the agreement would boost bilateral trade and investment flows. Ambassador Sapkal highlighted India’s sustained economic momentum and said the proposed pact would open new avenues for cooperation in critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, textiles, and food processing.
Both sides agreed to hold intersessional meetings to resolve pending issues before the next round of talks scheduled for New Delhi in January 2026.
Earlier, the 3rd Round of India–Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations took place in Santiago, Chile, from October 27 to 30, 2025. The discussions covered a wide spectrum of areas, including Trade in Goods and Services, Investment Promotion, Rules of Origin, Intellectual Property Rights, TBT/SPS measures, Economic Cooperation, and Critical Minerals.
Both India and Chile reaffirmed their shared commitment to an early and time-bound conclusion of the CEPA negotiations, aimed at enhancing market access, strengthening supply chain resilience, and deepening regional economic integration.
India’s expanding trade engagements with Peru and Chile underscore its strategic focus on building stronger partnerships across Latin America through comprehensive and mutually beneficial economic frameworks.
