Department of Posts, ESRI India Sign MoU to Boost DIGIPIN Initiative with Advanced Mapping Solutions

New Delhi, September 2: The Department of Posts (DoP) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ESRI India Technologies to strengthen the DIGIPIN initiative, the government’s digital addressing system aimed at improving service delivery and citizen engagement.
Under the agreement, DoP will gain access to Esri India’s high-resolution imagery and street basemaps, which will be integrated into the DIGIPIN portal. The partnership will also connect DIGIPIN with Esri’s Living Atlas portal, making its data accessible to the wider GIS community. ESRI India will provide technical support to ensure smooth integration and deployment.
An official statement on Monday said the collaboration is expected to make DIGIPIN more robust and user-friendly, helping citizens and government agencies benefit from precise, location-based addressing services.
Speaking at the signing ceremony at Dak Bhawan, Harpreet Singh, Member (Operations), Department of Posts, called the MoU “a major step forward in realizing the vision of DIGIPIN.” He added: “With ESRI’s robust base maps and geospatial technology, DIGIPIN will empower citizens and government services with accuracy and accessibility.”
Agendra Kumar, Managing Director of ESRI India, said the initiative reflects India’s broader digital transformation goals. “Our GIS expertise and advanced mapping solutions will support DIGIPIN to become a robust digital addressing system, driving efficiency in multiple sectors,” he noted.
The DoP said the partnership combines its nationwide postal network with ESRI’s advanced geospatial technology to deliver accurate and accessible digital addresses. The system is expected to benefit not just postal services, but also logistics, emergency response, and e-governance.
