PM Releases ₹20500 Cr PM-KISAN Instalment; Launches ₹2200 Cr Development Projects in Varanasi

Varanasi, August 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday released the 20th instalment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi, transferring over ₹20,500 crore directly to the bank accounts of 9.7 crore farmers across India. The disbursement pushes the total amount released under the scheme to more than ₹3.90 lakh crore since its inception.

During the event in Varanasi, the Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development works worth ₹2,200 crore, spanning infrastructure, healthcare, tourism, education, sports, and water access.

Key Announcements and Inaugurations:

  • PM-KISAN Scheme:
    • ₹20,500+ crore transferred to 9.7 crore farmers
    • ₹3.90 lakh crore total disbursed since inception
    • Over ₹90,000 crore disbursed to farmers in Uttar Pradesh, including ₹900 crore in Varanasi
  • Infrastructure:
    • Widening of Varanasi–Bhadohi road, construction of multiple railway overbridges, and rural-urban connectivity projects
    • Power infrastructure upgrades under Smart Distribution Project and underground cabling worth ₹880 crore
  • Tourism & Heritage:
    • Redevelopment of 8 riverfront ghats, Kalika Dham works, Durgakund restoration, and upgradation of Munshi Premchand’s ancestral house
  • Water Supply:
    • Inauguration of 47 Jal Jeevan Mission rural drinking water schemes
    • Purification and maintenance work at major kunds like Ramkund and Mandakini
  • Education & Health:
    • Upgradation of 53 municipal school buildings, new district library
    • Installation of robotic surgery and CT scan units at Mahamana Cancer Centre and Homi Bhabha Hospital
    • Foundation stone laid for Homeopathic College and Hospital
  • Agriculture Focus:
    • Launch of Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana with ₹24,000 crore outlay for backward agri-districts
  • Additional Highlights:
    • Inauguration of synthetic hockey turf, QRT barracks, and multipurpose hall at PAC Ramnagar
    • Distribution of 7,400+ assistive aids to elderly and differently abled
    • Launch of Kashi Sansad Pratiyogita registration portal for public competitions
