Government Invites Applications for Chairperson and Members of National Sports Board
The newly constituted National Sports Board will become India's key sports governance watchdog, overseeing recognition, accountability and ethical standards across national sports federations and governing bodies.
The government is seeking candidates of proven ability, integrity and standing with expertise or practical experience in areas such as public administration, sports governance, sports law and related fields.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has invited applications for the positions of Chairperson and two Members of the National Sports Board (NSB), marking a significant step in the implementation of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025.
The appointments will be made in accordance with the provisions of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, and the National Sports Governance (National Sports Board) Rules, 2026.
According to the ministry, the Chairperson and Members will be selected by the Central Government based on the recommendations of a Search-cum-Selection Committee constituted under the National Sports Board (Search-cum-Selection Committee) Rules, 2026.

Key Sports Governance Institution
The National Sports Board has been established as a central regulatory authority responsible for granting recognition to National Sports Bodies and ensuring compliance with governance, financial and ethical standards.
The creation of the Board is part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and professionalism in India’s sports administration ecosystem.
Officials said the Board will play a critical role in monitoring governance practices across sports federations and ensuring that recognized bodies adhere to prescribed norms and standards.
Strengthening Accountability in Sports
The National Sports Governance Act, 2025, seeks to modernize sports administration by introducing greater oversight and institutional mechanisms to promote good governance within sports organizations.
The National Sports Board is expected to serve as an independent oversight body that will help improve governance structures, financial management and ethical conduct across national sporting institutions.
The move comes as India intensifies efforts to strengthen its sports ecosystem and enhance its performance on the global stage through improved administration, athlete support systems and institutional reforms.
