New Delhi: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has announced the launch of the upgraded Golden Chariot Luxury Train for the 2026-27 tourist season, introducing enhanced onboard amenities, redesigned interiors and curated South India heritage journeys.

In a statement on Friday, IRCTC said the Golden Chariot returns in a refreshed form, combining traditional elegance with modern comfort while showcasing the rich cultural heritage, architecture and scenic landscapes of South India.

The upgraded luxury train features redesigned interiors, premium cabins with plush furnishings, smart TVs and Wi-Fi-enabled entertainment systems aimed at enhancing passenger experience. Safety systems have also been strengthened with the installation of CCTV surveillance and advanced fire alarm mechanisms.

The Golden Chariot can accommodate up to 80 guests across 40 cabins, including double-bed cabins, twin-bed cabins and a specially designed cabin for differently abled passengers.

The train offers a range of luxury facilities including:

  • Fine dining restaurants serving Indian and international cuisine
  • Lounge bar facilities
  • Spa and wellness centre
  • Wi-Fi-enabled infotainment systems
  • Personalized hospitality services
  • Elegant interiors inspired by South Indian royal heritage
  • Modern bathroom and cabin amenities
  • Onboard guided travel assistance

IRCTC has announced three curated itineraries for the upcoming tourist season.

The flagship “Pride of Karnataka” itinerary spans six days covering Bengaluru, Mysuru, Hampi and Goa.

The “Jewels of South” itinerary includes Mysuru, Mahabalipuram, Thanjavur and Cochin, offering travellers a glimpse into South India’s cultural and coastal heritage.

A shorter four-day itinerary titled “Glimpses of Karnataka” has also been introduced covering key heritage destinations in Karnataka.

IRCTC said the upgraded Golden Chariot aims to strengthen India’s luxury tourism segment and attract both domestic and international travellers seeking immersive heritage travel experiences.
