New Delhi: Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications and Flipkart India Private Limited have signed an agreement for last-mile parcel delivery services aimed at strengthening India’s e-commerce logistics ecosystem and enhancing nationwide delivery capabilities.
The agreement was signed by Neeraj Kumar Jha, General Manager, Parcel Directorate, Department of Posts, and Harvinder Kapur, Director – Commercial, Flipkart, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations, in New Delhi on Friday.
Officials present during the signing included Adnan Ahmed, Chief General Manager, Parcel and CCS Directorate and Dippy Vankani, Director (Corporate Affairs), Flipkart.
Under the partnership, the Department of Posts will provide last-mile parcel delivery services for Flipkart shipments across the country by leveraging its extensive postal network.
The collaboration aims to combine India Post’s wide delivery reach and trusted logistics infrastructure with Flipkart’s large-scale e-commerce operations to offer efficient, reliable and customer-focused delivery solutions.
According to the agreement, Flipkart will utilise India Post’s network for parcel delivery in urban, semi-urban, rural and remote areas, including underserved regions where logistics access remains limited.
The services will include delivery of prepaid and cash-on-delivery parcels, OTP-based delivery authentication and real-time shipment tracking facilities.
Officials said the partnership is expected to improve delivery timelines, operational coordination and technology integration for seamless parcel movement across India.
The Department of Posts currently operates through a network of more than 1.6 lakh post offices, giving Flipkart access to one of the world’s largest postal delivery infrastructures.
The collaboration is expected to enhance market reach and service efficiency for Flipkart, particularly in remote and rural geographies where e-commerce penetration is growing rapidly.
The government said the agreement also aligns with the Department of Posts’ ongoing efforts to transform itself into a major logistics and parcel delivery organisation supporting India’s expanding digital economy.
Officials noted that the partnership is likely to strengthen the Department’s parcel business through better utilisation of its logistics and delivery infrastructure while supporting the rapid growth of India’s e-commerce sector.
