DRDO transfers missile technologies to Indian defence industry to boost indigenous manufacturing
The defence minister has approved the transfer of DRDO-developed technologies for all conventional missile systems to Indian industry, strengthening domestic production and reducing import dependence.
The Transfer of Technology (ToT) will allow eligible Indian companies to undertake production of the missile systems, subject to applicable qualifications, certifications and regulatory requirements, the Ministry of Defence said.
NEW DELHI: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday approved the transfer of technology for all conventional missile systems developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to Indian defence companies for domestic production in a move aimed at strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing.
The Transfer of Technology (ToT) will allow eligible Indian companies to undertake production of the missile systems, subject to applicable qualifications, certifications and regulatory requirements, the Ministry of Defence said.
The initiative is intended to facilitate the transition of missile systems from the development stage to industrial-scale production and expand the role of domestic industry in India’s defence ecosystem.
The move is also expected to create greater opportunities for Indian MSMEs and other technology partners to participate in the missile systems supply chain. By transferring advanced technologies to industry, DRDO aims to leverage domestic manufacturing capabilities for the production of sophisticated defence systems.
According to the Ministry, the initiative will contribute to enhancing India’s operational capabilities, reducing dependence on imports and increasing domestic value addition in defence manufacturing.
The technology transfer is part of the government’s broader push for Aatmanirbharta in defence, with greater emphasis on developing an indigenous industrial base capable of designing, manufacturing and supplying advanced defence equipment.
DRDO will work with Indian industry to facilitate the transfer and absorption of the technologies and support the development of domestic capabilities for manufacturing conventional missile systems.
The move marks a significant step in shifting advanced missile technologies developed within India’s defence research ecosystem towards wider industrial production in the country.
