NMDC Launches Summer Camps for Tribal Children Across 17 Villages in Chhattisgarh
Around 1,700 Children to Participate in Learning, Sports and Creative Activities During Summer Vacation
According to NMDC, the initiative is aimed at creating a safe and encouraging environment for children in rural and underserved communities during the summer vacation period.

Dantewada (Chhattisgarh): State-run mining major NMDC has launched a large-scale summer camp initiative for children from tribal communities across 17 villages in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh as part of its grassroots community development efforts.
The camps, being conducted from May 20 to June 15, are expected to engage nearly 1,700 children through activities focused on experiential learning, creativity, sports and social development.
According to NMDC, the initiative is aimed at creating a safe and encouraging environment for children in rural and underserved communities during the summer vacation period.
Currently, daily attendance at the camps ranges between 30 and 40 children in each village, while mobilisation efforts are continuing to increase participation levels across all locations.
Children attending the camps spend three to four hours every day participating in reading sessions, craft activities and music workshops, followed by outdoor games such as frisbee, kabaddi and kho-kho. The sessions conclude with the distribution of refreshments.
The programme is being implemented in partnership with WOSCA, an organisation engaged in education and community development initiatives.
NMDC said the camps are designed to bridge the gap in access to structured creative learning opportunities in remote rural regions while helping children build confidence, communication skills and teamwork.
The initiative forms part of the company’s broader village development and social responsibility efforts in the Bastar region, where NMDC operates major mining projects.
The company noted that community participation has been steadily increasing, with encouraging responses from children, parents and local stakeholders in the villages where the camps have been launched.
“As the initiative expands in the coming weeks, NMDC encourages families and community members to actively participate in making this a vibrant and meaningful summer experience for children in Dantewada,” the company said.
