New Delhi: Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah on Friday welcomed the passage of the Jan Vishwas Bill, 2026 in Parliament, describing it as a major step towards improving ease of living and ease of doing business in the country.

In a post on X, Shah said the legislation will simplify legal frameworks by removing unnecessary provisions and reducing compliance burdens. He added that the move aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build a “New India” with streamlined governance and citizen-friendly systems.

“The passage of the Jan Vishwas Bill 2026 in Parliament is India’s giant step towards accelerating ease of living and ease of business… making life easier and business simpler for all,” Shah said.

What is Jan Vishwas Bill 2026?

The Jan Vishwas Bill, 2026 is a reform-oriented legislation aimed at decriminalising minor offences and rationalising regulatory provisions across multiple sectors.

The key objectives of the bill include:

  • Reducing criminal penalties: Converts several minor offences from criminal to civil penalties, lowering the risk of imprisonment for procedural lapses.
  • Simplifying compliance: Removes redundant legal provisions and streamlines regulatory requirements for businesses and individuals.
  • Promoting ease of doing business: Creates a more predictable and less punitive regulatory environment, especially for MSMEs and startups.
  • Improving governance efficiency: Encourages trust-based governance by shifting from punishment-driven enforcement to facilitation.

The bill is part of a broader reform agenda aimed at modernising India’s legal and regulatory framework to match the needs of a fast-growing economy.

The government sees the legislation as a key step towards building a trust-based regulatory ecosystem, reducing litigation, and enabling faster economic activity while improving citizens’ day-to-day interactions with governance systems.
