Gandhinagar, November 4: In a major step toward future-ready farming, NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub on Monday unveiled its strategic roadmap — “Reimagining Agriculture: A Roadmap for Frontier Technology Led Transformation” — outlining how AI, digital twins, precision agriculture, and climate-resilient technologies can revolutionize India’s agricultural sector by 2047.

The roadmap was launched in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam, and key dignitaries including Dr Hasmukh Adhia, Dr Neelam Patel, and Debjani Ghosh, alongside representatives from industry, academia, and innovation ecosystems.

Developed in collaboration with BCG, Google, and CII, the roadmap presents an ambitious blueprint for leveraging frontier technologies — such as climate-resilient seeds, agentic AI, and advanced mechanisation — to boost productivity, sustainability, and farmer income. It segments India’s agricultural ecosystem into Aspiring, Transitioning, and Advanced farmer archetypes, offering tailored solutions to address each group’s unique needs.

Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel said Gujarat is “uniquely positioned to lead India’s agricultural transformation,” citing initiatives such as the Digital Crop Survey, Digital Agri Farm Registry, and the i-Khedut portal as examples of how technology is empowering farmers. “Farmer sashaktikaran is essential for realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. By harnessing AI, data, and precision technologies, we can make every acre more productive and every farmer more prosperous,” he said.

BVR Subrahmanyam, CEO of NITI Aayog, emphasized that India’s agricultural diversity demands differentiated technological interventions. “No two farmers in India are the same. The real impact of frontier technologies will come from customizing solutions with empathy and precision,” he noted.

Debjani Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow at NITI Aayog, described the initiative as heralding a “technological renaissance” in agriculture. “The next revolution will be measured not just in hectares and yields but in data, intelligence, and design,” she said.

The roadmap aims to position India as a global leader in agri-tech innovation, driving rural prosperity, resilience, and competitiveness in line with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
