National Cooperative Database Now Covers 8 Lakh Societies, 30 Crore Members Across India: Amit Shah

New Delhi, July 23: The Ministry of Cooperation has developed a comprehensive National Cooperative Database (NCD) to provide a unified, real-time view of the cooperative ecosystem in India. The portal, launched on March 8, 2024, currently hosts verified information on over 8 lakh cooperative societies, representing approximately 30 crore members nationwide.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah stated that the database was built with the active support of States and Union Territories, and is regularly updated by nodal officers designated by the respective governments.
Key Features of the NCD:
- Covers cooperatives’ location, membership, sector-wise activity, infrastructure, financial performance, and audit status.
- Helps identify gaps in cooperative presence across geographies and sectors.
- Enables data-driven policy-making, strategic interventions, and performance tracking by states, ministries, and stakeholders.
- Facilitates transparency, accessibility, and real-time monitoring of cooperatives across India.
Continuous Expansion and Open Access
The NCD is a living system—its scope and functionalities are continuously being upgraded based on emerging requirements. New data fields and modules are being added in consultation with stakeholders.
The portal is publicly accessible at https://cooperatives.gov.in, allowing open access to anyone seeking reliable data on the country’s cooperative landscape.
The initiative marks a significant step in strengthening the cooperative movement and enhancing support for underperforming or underserved regions, in line with the government’s vision of promoting “Sahakar se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation).
