New Delhi, November 5: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has underscored India’s commitment to transforming waste and agricultural biomass into clean energy, calling it a key step toward ecological protection, public health improvement, and national self-reliance. Delivering a video address at the 10th International Conference on Waste to Worth Technologies, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Tuesday, the minister said innovation in bioenergy will help curb air pollution from crop residue burning and accelerate the country’s shift toward a circular economy.

The event also marked the launch of the third edition of the National Circular Economy Framework (NCEF–3), expanding its focus to twenty priority materials and emphasizing actionable implementation, measurable outcomes, and accountability to operationalize circularity at scale.

Addressing the inaugural session, VK Chaurasia, Advisor in-charge, CPHEEO, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, highlighted that lasting progress in waste management would depend on collaboration between government, industry, and innovators to create an enabling ecosystem for sustainable growth.

In his welcome address, Masood Mallick, Chairman, CII National Committee on Waste to Worth Technologies and MD & Group CEO, Re Sustainability, emphasized the need for transparent circularity measurement systems, creation of green jobs, and stronger international collaborations to accelerate India’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

Nearly 50 organizations were recognized at the 6th CII 4R Awards 2025, celebrating excellence in Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Repair (4R) practices, alongside the release of a Compendium of Best Practices featuring scalable waste-to-worth solutions. The event also witnessed the launch of the Young 4R Awards, aimed at inspiring sustainability leadership among professionals under 35.

Over 300 delegates from government, industry, and academia participated in the conclave, which featured discussions on circular economy governance, emerging technologies, intellectual property partnerships, and new opportunities in waste-to-worth innovation.
