ICGEB Marks First Anniversary of BioE3 Policy with Industry–Academia Dialogue
Directors of collaborating institutes showcased cutting-edge research in climate-resilient agriculture and clean energy, highlighting pathways for translating innovation into practical applications.
New Delhi, September 6: The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi, commemorated the first anniversary of the BioE3 Policy on Saturday with a day-long programme, BioE3@1, themed “Institute–Industry Interaction for Climate Resilient Agriculture and Clean Energy.”
The event brought together leading national research institutes — including the National Agri Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali; National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi; National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB), Hyderabad; Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology (IPFT), Gurugram; and the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad — alongside prominent industry players such as Balram Chinni Mills, Prasad Seeds, Nuziveedu Seeds, Bioseeds, Mankind Agro, and Insecticides India.
In the first session, Directors of collaborating institutes showcased cutting-edge research in climate-resilient agriculture and clean energy, highlighting pathways for translating innovation into practical applications. The second session, moderated by ICGEB Director Dr. Ramesh V. Sonti, featured an industry panel that discussed strategies to strengthen institute–industry linkages and speed up the lab-to-market journey of bio-innovations.
An exhibition on the sidelines presented technological breakthroughs in agri-biotech, sustainable energy, animal health, and pesticide formulation, offering industry stakeholders a first-hand view of emerging opportunities.
Approved by the Union Cabinet in 2024, the BioE3 Policy is the government’s flagship initiative to integrate biotechnology with the economy, environment, and employment. Designed to accelerate India’s bioeconomy and support the country’s Net Zero 2070 targets, the policy reflects a transformative approach linking innovation with sustainability and inclusive growth.
