TDB backs development of indigenous 32-slice CT scanner
Panacea Medical Technologies will develop and commercialise the diagnostic imaging system with Technology Development Board support, aiming to strengthen domestic manufacturing of advanced medical equipment.
The project envisages the design, development and deployment of a diagnostic imaging system for use across clinical disciplines.

NEW DELHI: The Technology Development Board (TDB) on Thursday signed an agreement with Karnataka-based Panacea Medical Technologies to support the development and commercialisation of an indigenous 32-slice computed tomography (CT) scanner.
The Department of Science and Technology announced the agreement in a statement. The project envisages the design, development and deployment of a diagnostic imaging system for use across clinical disciplines.
Based in Malur, Panacea specialises in radiotherapy and radiology equipment. The company is drawing on its experience in high-precision imaging and cancer treatment technologies to expand into diagnostic CT imaging.
CT scanners combine rotating X-ray systems, digital detectors and computer algorithms to produce detailed cross-sectional images of internal body structures. Developing these systems requires precise engineering, component integration and calibration to ensure imaging accuracy and patient safety.
The initiative comes amid growing demand for diagnostic imaging equipment as healthcare infrastructure expands and the burden of chronic diseases increases. Domestic development of advanced medical devices could help strengthen manufacturing capabilities and reduce dependence on imported technologies, the statement said.
TDB Secretary Rajesh Kumar Pathak said the support was intended to help Indian companies develop medical technologies suited to the country’s healthcare requirements, while creating opportunities for adoption in global markets.
The release did not disclose the value of TDB’s support, the project’s development timeline or an expected commercial launch date.
