NEW DELHI: Jobseeker interest in four cybersecurity roles in India more than doubled over the latest 12-month period, while employer job postings showed smaller and mixed changes, according to Indeed.

In data released on October 6, the hiring platform measured interest through clicks on job postings, comparing the latest 12-month period with the preceding year.

Security operations centre (SOC) analyst roles recorded the largest increase in interest at 225%, followed by privacy and data protection at 189%, security engineer at 176% and cybersecurity analyst at 175%.

Employer posting activity followed a different pattern. Privacy and data protection postings increased 18%, while cybersecurity analyst postings rose 9%. Security engineer postings declined around 1%, and SOC analyst postings fell around 8%.

Rohan Sylvester, talent strategy advisor at Indeed India, said more people were considering cybersecurity careers, but opportunities were not growing at the same pace across specialisations. Understanding employers’ skill requirements could help candidates navigate the market, he added.

Indeed identified information security, cloud security and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) standards among the leading skills in cybersecurity postings.

Other frequently listed skills included firewalls, appearing in 19.6% of postings; ISO 27001, in 17.5%; security information and event management (SIEM), in 15.2%; network security, in 12%; and vulnerability assessment, in 11.6%.

The platform said these requirements reflect organisations’ priorities in protecting data, cloud services and digital identities, as well as responding to technology risks.

The findings indicate strong candidate interest alongside uneven hiring activity, making the choice of specialisation and relevant skills important for those pursuing cybersecurity careers.
