Mumbai: The Government of Maharashtra and public sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have assured citizens that adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG are available across the state despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East affecting global supply chains.

According to the State Level Coordinator (Oil Industry), Maharashtra, Mihir Ganesh Joshi, supply operations are being closely monitored to ensure uninterrupted availability of petroleum products throughout the state. Major OMCs including Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited are coordinating with the state government to maintain smooth distribution.

The state has witnessed a sharp rise in fuel demand during the first fortnight of May 2026, with diesel demand increasing by 19.66 percent and petrol demand by 20.39 percent. During this period, Maharashtra received 267 TKL of petrol and 502 TKL of diesel supplies. Authorities said the increased demand has been fully met and appealed to consumers not to resort to panic buying or hoarding.

For LPG, Maharashtra currently has around 32,995 metric tonnes of stock available across the three PSU oil companies. Domestic LPG deliveries are continuing as per customer bookings, while booking interval restrictions remain at 25 days for urban consumers and 45 days for rural consumers to ensure equitable distribution.

Officials said Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) verification through OTP remains mandatory during LPG delivery, with over 90 percent of refills already being delivered using DAC authentication systems. Consumers have also been encouraged to use digital booking platforms instead of visiting LPG agencies physically.

The state government said nearly 60 percent of commercial LPG demand, compared to pre-war levels, is currently being met while ensuring full supply to priority sectors such as hospitals, educational institutions, crematoriums and social care institutions. In addition, about 23,000 five-kilogram Free Trade LPG cylinders are being distributed daily to migrant labourers under government directives.

To strengthen alternative energy infrastructure, the Maharashtra government has accelerated the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) networks. The state currently has around 44 lakh PNG connections, the highest in the country. Since April 1, 2026, more than 94,220 new PNG connections have been activated across Maharashtra.

The government has also intensified vigilance measures to curb black marketing and hoarding of petroleum products. District administrations have conducted 9,494 raids across the state, leading to the seizure of 4,449 cylinders, registration of 70 FIRs and arrest of 52 persons linked to irregularities in petroleum distribution.

Authorities reiterated that the Government of India, Government of Maharashtra and OMCs are jointly ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply across the state and urged citizens to avoid unnecessary panic purchases.
