New Delhi, November 20: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) convened a stakeholder webinar on Wednesday to build awareness and strengthen the ecosystem for offline Aadhaar verification, a key feature of the soon-to-be-launched Aadhaar App. Over 250 organisations and participants from diverse sectors joined the session, which focused on privacy-protecting, paperless identity verification.

Welcoming participants, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar said the objective was to promote offline verification, encourage ecosystem adoption and highlight its security and convenience benefits. He emphasised that offline verification reduces reliance on physical Aadhaar copies — a common cause of misuse — and offers a safer alternative for residents and service providers.

UIDAI DDG Vivek Chandra Verma delivered a detailed presentation explaining the purpose, technical architecture and practical applications of offline verification. He outlined integration pathways, QR-based verification options and the future-ready nature of the system.

Officials showcased potential use cases ranging from hotel check-ins and society entry to event access and service enrolments. They highlighted key advantages such as the ability to share full or selective Aadhaar information, confirm proof of presence through offline face verification, and verify identity without internet connectivity.

For Aadhaar holders, the upcoming app will offer several resident-centric features — the ability to store Aadhaar details of up to five family members, full control over shared data, one-click biometric lock/unlock and easy mobile number or address updates.

UIDAI said the strong turnout and active participation underscore growing interest in offline verification. Participants were encouraged to explore integration requirements and enrol as Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs). Officials added that more features and capabilities will be announced at launch, further strengthening India’s privacy-conscious, secure digital identity ecosystem.
