Startups, AI entrepreneurs are co-architects of India’s future: PM
The Prime Minister interacts with founders and representatives of Indian AI start-ups during a roundtable discussion ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, at his residence in New Delhi on Thursday.
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said startups and artificial intelligence entrepreneurs are the co-architects of India’s future, as he chaired a roundtable with leading Indian AI start-ups ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026.
At the interaction held at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, 12 Indian AI start-ups that have qualified under the Foundation Model Pillar of the upcoming summit presented their work and ideas. The summit is scheduled to be held in India next month.
The participating start-ups showcased solutions across a wide spectrum, including Indian language foundation models, multilingual large language models, speech-to-text and text-to-audio technologies, generative AI-based 3D content for e-commerce and marketing, engineering simulations, material research, advanced data analytics, and healthcare diagnostics.
During the discussion, the Prime Minister underlined the transformative role of artificial intelligence in society and said India is preparing to play a major global role in the technology sector through the India AI Impact Summit. He stressed that India has the capacity not only for innovation but also for large-scale implementation.
The Prime Minister said Indian AI models should reflect the ethos of “Made in India, Made for the World,” while promoting local and indigenous content and regional languages. He emphasised that Indian AI systems must be ethical, unbiased, transparent, and grounded in data privacy principles. Assuring full government support, he urged start-ups to work towards global leadership from India and highlighted the potential for affordable, inclusive, and frugal AI solutions.
Start-up leaders at the roundtable highlighted the rapid growth and vast future potential of the AI sector and said the centre of gravity of AI innovation and deployment is beginning to shift towards India. They noted that India now offers a robust and enabling environment for AI development, placing the country firmly on the global AI map, and commended the government’s commitment to strengthening the artificial intelligence ecosystem.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Avataar, BharatGen, Fractal, Gan, Genloop, Gnani, Intellihealth, Sarvam, Shodh AI, Soket AI, Tech Mahindra and Zenteiq. Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State Jitin Prasada were also present.
