Manipur Hosts NeGD-Supported ‘AI for Good Governance’ Workshop to Boost Digital Transformation
Officials said the program, part of NeGD’s Capacity Building scheme, equips officers with domain expertise, practical exposure, and best practices in AI-enabled governance.
Imphal, August 25: The Department of Information Technology (DIT), Government of Manipur, in collaboration with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), organised a two-day state-level workshop on “AI for Good Governance” in Imphal last week.
The sensitization and capacity-building workshop, held on August 21–22 at the State Academy of Training (SAT), aimed to accelerate the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in governance. Over 50 senior officials, including all Deputy Commissioners of the state, attended the sessions, underscoring Manipur’s collective push toward AI-led public administration.
Delivering the keynote address, Thokchom Kiran Kumar, IAS, Secretary (IT), Government of Manipur, stressed that capacity building in AI is a critical first step to improving governance. He pointed out that the state is laying the groundwork for AI integration in areas such as legal case management and GIS-based habitation mapping of villages to enable faster, more transparent, and citizen-centric services.
In his welcome remarks, Nambam Deben, Director (IT), Manipur, highlighted the importance of the initiative and extended gratitude to NeGD and participating officers for supporting the state’s digital governance vision. Potsangbam Henry, Head of the State e-Mission Team (SeMT), delivered the vote of thanks, reaffirming SeMT’s commitment to advancing AI-driven governance.
